Last Meal

When I get together with folks, the conversation always turns to food talk. One of my favorite questions to ask people is, what would be you last meal?
Yes, as in, if you were on death row and they let you request your last meal, what would it be?
Me?
Mine would be...

Chicken Fried Steak with cream gravey
Mashed Potatoes
Green Beans made with bacon
Big fat buttery rolls
and a Diet Coke

What would yours be?

Good Grubbin'!

  1. It must be our Southern roots, but mine would also be chicken fried steak. But, it would have to be my mother's CFS circa 1985. For some reason as she has aged her cooking has lost its sparkle. This was the single most requested meal during my childhood from me and both of my brothers. We could count on this a minimum of three times a year on each of our birthdays! Bonnie also served it with mashed potatoes and gravy but I have no specific recollection of there ever being a green vegetable involved. Perhaps this is where I earned my girlish figure!

  2. If I were in an "out-with-a-bang" mood I would love: An ice cold perfect glass of champagne with 3 of my aunt Sandra's cheddar cheese crackers- they are like a shortbread cheddar cookie.
Le Piche/Cafe Presse's green salad- I don't know what's going on there but it is the most crisp tender delicious and simple salad I have ever eaten. Then the beef chow-fun my cusin Tina turned me on to from that place on Chicago's south side, the big, fat, cooked noodles are put in a super hot pan folded in half so one 4th is perfectly crispy and the rest is noodly. The gravy is the apex of savory beef goodness! there were a few peas and maybe a string or two of carrot- they don't stand out in my memory it was really all about the sauce, noodles and meat. Really sublime. For desert I would love an espresso with a slice of coconut cream pie.
    OR
If I were feeling more "gimme comfort", would go with short grain brown rice, butter, Liquid Aminos with a little brewers yeast on top. For real- its yummy.
